Forty years ago this week Almut Rössler premiered Oliver Messiaen's Livre du Saint Sacrement, commissioned by the Detroit Chapter for the 1984 AGO National Convention. As part of our recognition of this anniversary, this fall her student, Jörg Abbing, organist, musicologist, and President-elect of the Hanover (Germany) University of Music, will offer a rarely heard full performance of this piece. 

Two years ago Dr. Abbing presented a lecture/recital on the inner workings and compositional structure of the piece on the organ and site of the premiere, the Möller instrument at Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Detroit. This year he offers a new experience of the work on the Pilzecker at The Cathedral Church of St. Paul.
